Networking Tips from the Office of Career Planning

Is networking really that important? Networking is not only the most common way people find jobs, it is also the most effective job search tool.
Experts estimate that up to 90% of jobs are filled by a referral and as many as 80% of jobs are never posted. It’s great to start with online networking tools like LinkedIn but those face-to-face connections are often the most powerful. If you are interested in making a career or job move, definitely add networking to your to-do list! Plan to spend twice as much time talking with other professionals as you do scouring online job postings.
