Meredith’s Daisy Trade Hosts the Adopt-A-Month Initiative

The Office of the Chaplain and the Wellness Advisory Committee have come together in support of the Daisy Trade by hosting an Adopt-A-Month program. The Daisy Trade is located in Jones Chapel where students can anonymously find items of need such as food, office supplies, clothes, toiletries, etc., that have been donated by individuals within the Meredith community.

The goal of the Adopt-A-Month initiative is to keep the shelves of the Daisy Trade full of these necessity items. Each building on campus is encouraged to “adopt-a-month,” during which the faculty and staff in that building will collect and donate items during their adopted month.

A recent addition to the Daisy Trade is the collection of fresh foods and hygiene/household items. “Nearly half of students on college campuses report being food insecure, and almost a quarter qualify as hungry,” said Meghan Engstran, program assistant for the Office of the Chaplain. “These items were added to the Daisy Trade inventory in an effort to reduce hardship and food insecurity on Meredith’s campus.”

If you would like to help Meredith’s community, you can contribute to the Daisy Trade by dropping off donations in the Office of the Chaplain, the kitchen in the Chapel, or in one of the Adopt-A-Month donation boxes around campus. A liaison has been assigned for each building on campus to help answer any questions and help coordinate the event.
