Meredith to Host Panel Discussion on Assault Laws in North Carolina

Meredith College will host a panel of four North Carolina legislators to discuss the legislative process on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, at 5:30 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium.

The event, “How Does a Bill Become a Law?,” will mainly center on assault laws in North Carolina, and will inform the audience of the push to change the legal loophole surrounding consent.

Scheduled to participate in the bipartisan discussion are Representative Mary Belk (NC-88), Representative Jon Hardister (NC-59), Representative Graig Meyer (NC-50), and Representative Jason Saine (NC-97). The panel will be moderated by Skye David of the N.C. Coalition Against Sexual Assault.

The event will be an opportunity for students and the community to meet state representatives and learn about the legislative process.

The panel discussion is free and open to the public. Attendance by Meredith students qualifies as an Academic/Cultural event for General Education.

Sponsored by the Meredith College School of Arts and Humanities and the Office of the Dean of Students.
