Meredith Supports National Food Day by Hosting Stop Hunger Now Meal Packaging Event

The Meredith College Master of Science in Nutrition program will be observing National Food Day on Friday, October 30, 2015, by hosting a meal packaging event to benefit Stop Hunger Now.  The event will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. in Meredith's Belk Dining Hall.

Meal-packaging events take place either at a Stop Hunger Now warehouse or at the volunteers’ location through a mobile operation that delivers ingredients and supplies. During the event, volunteers work in teams at each packaging station. Volunteers set up and take down packaging stations and equipment, fill bins with raw ingredients, scoop ingredients into meal bags, weigh and seal the bags, box and stack them on pallets, and load the pallets and equipment onto a truck.

The Meredith College graduate nutrition students have planned and organized this meal packaging event, securing over 60 volunteers and $4,000 to benefit Stop Hunger Now. Their goal is to package 17,000 meals that morning for the organization.
