Meredith Selects Dimestore by Lee Smith for Summer Reading Program

Meredith College has selected Lee Smith’s memoir Dimestore as its 2016 Summer Reading Program book.

This collection of autobiographical essays invites readers to contemplate family, friendship, resilience, identity, a sense of place, education, creativity, and memory.

Meredith’s Summer Reading Program committee called Dimestore “an ideal reading to connect people across generations and to inspire reflection through the phases of one’s life.”

Smith, who lives in Hillsborough, N.C., is the author of 17 works of fiction, including Fair and Tender LadiesOn Agate Hill, The Last Girls, and her most recent novel, Guests on Earth. She has received numerous awards, including the North Carolina Award for Literature.

On October 12, Meredith College will welcome Smith to campus for a day of conversations and an evening lecture.
