Meredith Honors Students Develop Leadership and Marketing Skills

The Honors Program at Meredith College challenges students intellectually and academically through a rigorous curriculum culminating in an honors thesis in a student’s chosen field. In addition to the academic benefits, Honors students have opportunities to gain valuable skills and experiences through participation in the learning community.

Allegra Banks, ’27, and Grayson Morris, ’26, have developed leadership and marketing skills as the program’s social media and marketing co-chairs for the 2024-25 academic year. Their responsibilities include posting on the program’s Instagram account to promote events, opportunities, and merchandise.

Honors student Grayson Morris “This role was the perfect fit for me because I enjoy being creative and planning events and content,” said Morris, who was part of the team that launched the program’s Instagram. “My ability to create effective social media content has definitely improved through this experience.”

Banks, who has managed Instagram accounts for student organizations since high school, took this role to use her skillset to help spread publicity for the program. “Having a social media presence is important to prospective students. It’s something they look at when considering applying,” she said. “We are showing them what our Honors Program is all about!”

The co-chairs agreed that participating in the Honors Program has contributed to a positive college experience. They have been able to curate their academic experience by working closely with faculty to contract courses in their area of interest, and taking unique colloquium courses only available to Honors students. They have also had unforgettable memories with the Honors community on the annual Fall Honors trip and other activities, such as ballet performances.

Banks and Morris both encourage students considering applying to the Honors Program to do so.

Honors student Allegra Banks.“Historically, women and other marginalized groups are less likely to apply for opportunities like this. So my advice for prospective Honors students is to take that leap of faith,” said Banks. “Submitting that application is nerve-wracking, but the rewards from facing that fear will far outweigh the nerves.”
