Meredith Holds 2019 Faculty and Staff Recognition Ceremony

Meredith College celebrated its employees at the annual Faculty and Staff Awards and Recognition Celebration, held on Monday, April 22, 2019.

The following faculty and staff were presented with awards:

ACCESS AWARD
Darren Maiser,  Assistant Professor of Human Resource Management

The Access Award honors a member of the faculty or staff at Meredith College who has made significant contributions toward the advocacy, support, encouragement and success of students with disabilities. Nominations are collected from students with disabilities and are voted on by the Disability Services Panel.

ADJUNCT FACULTY AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING
Susan Gardner, Instructor of Biological Sciences

The Adjunct Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching is based on the impact the adjunct faculty member has had on students as well as the faculty member’s service to his or her department. Eligibility requires at least four semesters of teaching at Meredith, strong student evaluations, observations of teaching by the department head or other designated tenured member of the department, and a letter of support from a colleague.

STAFF RECOGNITION AWARDS

Margie Hattori, Assistant Director for Counseling

Staff Recognition Awards are presented annually to two staff members who, through their job performance, have demonstrated initiative, teamwork, extra effort and outstanding customer service to the Meredith community.

PAULINE DAVIS PERRY AWARDS
Shannon Grimes, Professor of Religious and Ethical Studies, Award for Research, Publication or Artistic Achievement
Julie Kolb, Instructor of Mathematics, Award for Excellence in Teaching

The Pauline Davis Perry Award for Research and Publication and/or Artistic Achievement is given to a faculty member who has done exceptional research, publication and/or artistic achievement. The Pauline Davis Perry Award for Excellence in Teaching is given to an outstanding teacher at Meredith.

ALLEN AND BARBARA PAGE PRESIDENTIAL STAFF AWARD
Grace Sugg, Associate Director of Admissions

Established in 2002, the Presidential Staff Award is given in recognition of exemplary service to the Meredith community. The Meredith College president chooses the recipient. The awards were renamed in 2012 in honor of former vice president for academic programs Allen Page and his wife, Barbara Page, ’54.

LAURA HARRILL PRESIDENTIAL AWARDS
Ann Gleason, Dean of Students
Jeff Waller, Head of Research and Instruction, Carlyle Campbell Library

The Laura Harrill Presidential Awards are presented to faculty members each year, in recognition of their noteworthy contributions to the advancement of Meredith College.

HARRY AND MARION EBERLY FACULTY DEVELOPMENT AWARD
Amanda Jones, Instructor of Social Work

The Harry and Marion Eberly Faculty Development Awards are given to deserving faculty members for the purpose of helping them progress in their area of expertise.

IDA H. FRIDAY FACULTY AWARD
Lanae Hood, Assistant Professor of Food and Nutrition

The Ida H. Friday Award was established in 2010 by former UNC System President William Friday and his family in honor of his wife, Ida Friday, a 1941 Meredith graduate. The fund supports faculty development, with preference given to faculty members who are early in their careers.

In addition to the presentation of awards, Professor of Human Environmental Sciences Deborah Tippett and Professor of Human Environmental Sciences Paul Winterhoff, who are retiring this year, were honored.

Faculty and staff were also recognized for service awards for five, ten, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 years of service.
