Meredith College earned the 2015 USA South Women’s President’s Cup in April, and Commissioner Rita Wiggs presented the award to the athletics department this month just prior to the October 14 home soccer match. This marks the first-ever President’s Cup earned by a single-gender institution.
Athletic Director Jackie Myers and her staff welcomed several new members this fall, beginning with a new athletic training team. After long-time Head Athletic Trainer Sharon Malley moved to a faculty-only position at Meredith, former Assistant Trainer Tammy Holleman returned to the College to direct the sports medicine program. She was joined by new Assistant AT Rebecca Edwards.
Leslie Payne assumed her position in August as head cross country/track and field coach. Longtime former Head Coach Amy Olsen and the 2013 and 2014 squads established a strong foundation with back-to-back USA South Championships. Payne and her staff will continue the recruiting and coaching efforts to carry on and elevate the tradition of Meredith cross country, while setting the standards for the college’s newest athletics program of track and field.
