Meredith College to Hold 2019 Commencement on May 11

Meredith College will hold commencement exercises for the Class of 2019 on Saturday, May 11, at 8 p.m. Meredith President Jo Allen, ’80, will deliver the commencement address. Representatives of the undergraduate and graduate Class of 2019 will also speak.

Approximately 475 degrees are scheduled to be conferred during the ceremony. Of these, 395 are undergraduate degree recipients and 80 are master’s degree recipients.

This year’s ceremony will be held in Reynolds Coliseum on the campus of North Carolina State University. Meredith College has held commencement exercises in an off-campus venue since 2013, when the size of the graduating classes became too large for on-campus locations. This opportunity to hold commencement at NC State is a result of Meredith’s long-standing goodwill and partnerships with the university, a fellow Cooperating Raleigh Colleges member with whom Meredith shares a dual degree engineering program.

Ticket Information
Each guest is required to have a ticket in order to attend Meredith’s 2019 commencement ceremony. Each graduate will receive seven tickets for guests. Ticket distribution will be held on campus the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday prior to commencement. The exact time and location of the distribution will be announced to the Class of 2019 via email from the Registrar.

In an effort to make this special event accessible to all, two alternate viewing options will be offered. A live feed of the ceremony will be available in Jones Auditorium on the Meredith College campus. Tickets are not needed for the alternate viewing location. Doors will open for the live feed in Jones Auditorium at 7 p.m.

Live streaming will also be available via the internet. To watch the live stream of the ceremony online, visit youtube.com/MeredithCollegeLive starting at 8 p.m. on the night of the event.

Other Commencement Weekend Events

Class Day
The Class of 2019 and Class of 2021, their sister class, will participate in Class Day on Friday, May 10, at 4 p.m. in the Courtyard behind Johnson Hall. During Class Day, the sophomore class constructs daisy chains and both classes sing traditional songs. Class officers recall and depict key events of the graduating class’ four years together. At the conclusion of Class Day, the daisy chains form the class numerals of the senior class and the seniors then form a circle and celebrate with their classmates. All participating students wear white attire for this event.

An invitation to Class Day and the picnic that immediately follows the ceremony has been mailed to senior families. Tickets for the picnic meal are $9 each. Order forms need to be postmarked by April 29.

Baccalaureate Worship Service
Meredith’s traditional baccalaureate service will be held on Saturday, May 11, at 3 p.m. in Jones Auditorium. The speaker is Meredith College Chaplain Donna Battle.

Baccalaureate is a celebration and spiritual reflection for graduates as they transition from their college years to the next phase of life. Members of the Class of 2019 will participate in their academic regalia. A special invitation is extended to families and guests to join graduates for this service.
