Meredith College has recently become a member of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU). Founded in 1986, HACU is dedicated to Hispanic success in education and is the only national educational association that represents existing and emerging Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI). Meredith College has recently been designated as an emerging HSI, meaning that for two consecutive years at least 15% of undergraduate students identified as Hispanic/Latino/a/x.
Meredith students are now eligible to apply for various scholarships offered through HACU. These scholarships can help pay for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses. All students are encouraged to apply. Students can also participate in HACU’s ¡Adelante! Leadership Institute and Internship Program which offers paid internships at federal agencies.
Coordinator of Campus Community and Culture Liliana Madrid has been selected as a fellow for HACU’s 2024-25 Leadership Academy/La Academia de Liderazgo. The fellowship is designed to increase diverse representation in executive and senior-level positions in higher education.
In the year-long program, fellows will attend HACU’s annual conference, National Capitol Forum, and international conference, as well as webinars. Additionally, fellows form mentorships with current and former leaders in higher education and develop an initiative to benefit their home institution.
The Class of 2028 has the largest population of Hispanic/Latino/a/x students in the College’s history with 19% of undergraduates and 7% of graduates identifying as Hispanic/Latino/a/x. Meredith has made various efforts to better serve this student population and their families.
Since 2013, Meredith has offered an En Español site that provides information on admissions, FAFSA, financial aid, student life, and more for Spanish-speaking families. A number of Meredith’s Admissions Blog posts are also available in Spanish to guide students and families throughout the college search process. Additionally, Meredith has partnered with IME Becas (Institute for Mexicans Abroad) for over a decade to award more than $200,500 of grant money to over 160 students of Mexican origin.
