Meredith College Holiday Shutdown Procedures

Holiday breaks provide great opportunities for everyone at Meredith to save energy. In order to maximize savings, we ask everyone to participate in assuring that buildings are shut down properly during each holiday period. Facilities Services will be setting back the thermostat controls in December during unoccupied periods to save on heating costs.

In addition, in December there will be power outages for maintenance and repairs on December 19 (rain date December 20), so please be sure to empty your refrigerator and freezer of any items that will melt or spoil and defrost freezers before you leave to prevent water runoff.

Staff and students are reminded to do the following before leaving school on the last day before their holiday break, for students by noon December 13, and for staff on or before December 18, 2019. If you plan to leave for Thanksgiving, please do the following (refrigerators optional) by noon on Wed. November 27.

• Turn off all lights, inside and outside, except safety and/or security lights.

• Close and secure doors and windows.

• Lower blinds and place in closed (slats down in winter) position, which helps to retain heat.

• Turn off or unplug coffee pots, computers, monitors, personal printers, TV’s, DVRs, laminating machines, speakers, personal appliances, chargers, adaptors, etc.

• Turn off power switch to networked copiers. (DO NOT UNPLUG)

• When shared printers in residence halls are turned off, the RD or RA will make sure they are turned back on when students return.

• Report any leaking faucets or running toilets to Facilities prior to the holiday.

• If you are on the top floor of a residence hall and have a thermostat, it should be set on Heat, Low Fan and 55 degrees.
