Meredith and Wake Young Women’s Leadership Academy Launch Summer Research Partnership

Student discussing research poster presentation

This year, Meredith’s Undergraduate Research Program developed a new partnership with Wake Young Women’s Leadership Academy (WYWLA) for summer research.

WYWLA high school student interns worked directly with Meredith students and faculty who had been awarded summer research partnership grants. This partnership was made possible with grant funding from the Jessie Ball duPont Religious, Charitable, and Educational Fund. There were a total of nine high school student interns, 15 Meredith Students, and seven Meredith faculty members who participated. Professor of Human Environmental Sciences Paul Winterhoff and Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences Carolina Perez-Heydrich served as co-directors for the Meredith-WYWLA Internship program.

Undergraduate Research was also able to fund several stipends for their summer research partnership thanks to the continued support from the Shepard K. Halsch Academic Enrichment Fund for Undergraduate Research (which is a Meredith fund). There were a total of 11 Meredith students and 8 Meredith faculty who were engaged in Halsch partnerships over summer.

Both groups of students will present at the annual fall Taste of Research event on September 14 in Carlyle Campbell Library.
