The Office of Career Planning is excited to work with your student this fall! Whether she is just getting started at Meredith, or preparing for graduation, our team is available to support her as she navigates her career path every step of the way. Being intentional about major selection, career exploration, and interacting with employers to make strong connections are part of this process for your student that should begin now. We welcome students to set up individual career counseling appointments with our counselors, and look forward to connecting with them in the classroom, too; we partner frequently with faculty to deliver career-related, tailored programming for many of our academic departments throughout the year.
There’s no time like the present! Encourage your students to get started now. Employers are beginning their recruiting process earlier each year, it seems; in fact, according to a recent NACE internship report, employers begin recruiting interns an average of eight months in advance of their employment start date. As a result, we’ve hit the ground running this semester with opportunities for students to explore opportunities and build professional connections. We’ve already hosted Credit Suisse, GEICO, and Enterprise Holdings on campus to connect with students, and we’ve taken a career trek to SAS for a great day of touring and learning from Meredith alumnae, and it’s only September! Our Angels Suited for Success Professional Development Certificate Program kicks off this month, as well.
Additional opportunities for students to make connections throughout the semester include:
All Meredith students have access to Handshake. The interactive platform gives students access to over 300K employers, including 100% of the Fortune 500. Please encourage your student to utilize her Handshake account to stay on top of upcoming career-related events and view job and internship postings, and to visit the Office of Career Planning early and often! We look forward to helping her navigate options, explore opportunities, and create a plan.
