Instructor of English Jason Newport gave a guest presentation on “The Reinvigorated Role of Independent Bookstores in American Communities” to master’s and Ph.D. students in American literature at the University of Szeged, in Szeged, Hungary, on April 25, at the invitation of the university’s Department of American Studies. Newport gave a featured presentation on “Workshopping: Using the Peer-Review Model to Improve Writing” to faculty and students at the University of Pécs, in Pécs, Hungary, on April 26, as the university's resident Fulbright scholar and instructor. On April 28, he gave a joint presentation on “Natural Wonders: Celebrating and Protecting Where We Come From” to an English-language class at PTE Babits High School, in Pécs, Hungary, at the invitation of the American Corner in Pécs, a U.S. State Department-sponsored initiative to highlight American culture. He also gave a joint presentation called “Hello From America! Where We’re From and What We Do,” to six English-language classes for Roma students at Gandhi High School, in Pécs, Hungary, on May 2, at the invitation of the school’s resident Fulbright English teaching assistant.
