Important Financial Assistance Reminders for Spring 2018

It is time to file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form for the 2018-19 academic year. This is the second year that the FAFSA has opened early, beginning October 1. However, the priority deadline to apply for financial aid (scholarships, grants, loans, work study) is March 15, 2018.  If you have not filed your FAFSA, please visit fafsa.ed.gov . It is important to note that you do not need to pay for the FAFSA.  If you are asked to pay, you are not on the proper site.

All returning students must complete the FAFSA annually in order to receive financial aid (scholarships, grants, loans, work study). You must complete the FAFSA using your 2016 tax information. We encourage families to utilize the IRS Data Retrieval tool to input their tax information for accurate processing.

FAFSA Filing Process
Once the FAFSA form is filed, you will receive a confirmation email from the FAFSA processor (Department of Education). This will allow you to know that your information will be transmitted to Meredith within 3-4 business days from the FAFSA processor (Department of Education). Once Meredith receives the information, we will notify you if any additional documentation is required. Please reply promptly if you are required to submit additional documents.

Awarding of Financial Aid and Confirmation Letters
Current students are awarded financial aid after Spring semester grades are received in May. Financial aid award letters listing all financial aid your daughter is receiving for 2018-19 will begin being mailed in June to the address on your daughter’s school record.

How to Protect Sensitive Information

Please be reminded that it is very important to protect your private and sensitive information.  Financial aid applications and documents frequently include significant amounts of information that we must keep secure. When you need to return forms to the Financial Assistance Office, please do not send them by unencrypted email, which is the least secure method.  We are happy to accept forms through the regular mail, in person, or by fax.

More information is available through the Meredith College Financial Assistance Office, Johnson Hall, at (919) 760-8565 or finaid@meredith.edu, or by visiting our web page at meredith.edu/financial-assistance. We stand ready to assist you through this process.
