Founders’ Day: Celebrating 125 Years of Going Strong

The 2015-16 academic year is a special one in the life of Meredith College, as our community celebrates 125 years since the College’s founding in 1891. Throughout the week of February 21 – 27, 2016, there will be ways for alumnae to participate in this special celebration of Meredith’s 125 year history of Going Strong.

Highlights for the week include: daily photo prompts to be shared on social media, a Meredith College exhibit and reception at The City of Raleigh Museum, a 125th celebration poetry contest, The Meredith Fund Day of Giving, a gathering and unveiling of a new historical marker on campus and a Lunch and Learn to celebrate Meredith through the decades featuring an alumnae panel.

In anticipation of Founders’ Day, the 125 Meredith Moments Blog will highlight 125 moments of Meredith history until February 27, 2016. Each day, for 125 days, a new object, publication, or photograph from the Meredith College Archive will be highlighted.

Alumnae are welcome and encouraged to participate in the 125th Anniversary Poetry Contest. Submittals should recognize Meredith’s history and will be used as part of the celebration in February. Submittals are due by October 12, 2015.

Additional details and a full schedule for the week will be available later this fall. Commemorative items, including an ornament, leather coasters and more, will soon be available through the Meredith Marketplace.
