Faculty/Staff Accomplishments 5/11/22

In this issue, we celebrate the accomplishments of faculty and staff in child development, economics, English, fashion merchandising & design, and the president’s office.

President Jo Allen presided over the annual meeting of the North Carolina Independent Colleges & Universities (NCICU) Board of Directors and the Advisory Board of the Independent College Fund, March 28-29. As NCICU chair, Allen opened the evening program which celebrated 50 years of both the North Carolina Need Based Scholarship (NCNBS) and the Federal Pell Grant. The annual meeting focused on critical issues in higher education.

Assistant Professor Pamela Norcross (Child Development) and Associate Professor Alexandra Howell (Fashion Merchandising & Design) have a poster accepted at the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) Special Topics: Construction of the “Other:” Development, Consequestions, and Applied Applications of Racism, Prejudice, and Discrimination in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico May 2-4. Dr. Norcross will present the poster: Impact of School Dress Code Policy on Adolescent Identity Development.

Professor of English Kelly Morris Roberts presented her paper “Voice Response for Written Assignments: A Mixed-Methods Analysis on Student Growth and Creation of Writing Communities” in late April at the American Educational Research Association Annual Conference.  This year, the conference was held in San Diego Calif., in a hybrid format.

Professor of Economics Anne York was interviewed by WRAL Techwire about a new ranking of best states for working mothers that placed North Carolina as a low 36th. York was quoted in a May 2  article about the ranking and her interview was published as a separate post.
