During the first two weeks of February, Meredith faculty participated in Open Week, which is when faculty are encouraged to open their classes for visits from colleagues across campus.
The goals and purposes of Open Week are to provide faculty with opportunities to learn from each other through observing their teaching and having conversations about teaching. Faculty who took advantage of these opportunities expressed that they received numerous benefits from participation. They learned new ideas for assignments, assessments, and teaching strategies and were able to see different teaching styles.
Additionally, faculty appreciated having interactions with colleagues from other disciplines who they would not otherwise have the opportunity to get to know.
One participant noted, “I am once again grateful for having the time to talk teaching with colleagues. It also strengthened my relationships with people in other schools, getting me out of the silo that often is academia. I will be a better professor for it.”
