Event Planning Class Visits Convention Center

With the Governor’s recent loosening of regulations regarding indoor gathering limits, and the Raleigh Convention Center complex returning to hosting live meetings and events, students in Meredith College’s Event Planning class in the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management Program were lucky to catch up with Meeting Planner Hayley Burkhardt and National Sales Manager Kate Jansen for an engaging and informative “walk and talk” tour of the complex. They provided students with a fabulous sneak peek into how this industry works and excellent advice on how to pitch, plan and execute successful events.

After the visit, students reflected on the experience and shared in class their overall impressions and what they learned. Their insights included learning about the “real work” of planners as well as how every one of the convention center complex’s 500 employees contribute to “creating moments” that delight and exceed client expectations. Students also offered up ideas about what their dream internship at the complex might be.
