Education Professors Named Co-Directors of Faculty Development

Associate Professor of Education Julie Schrock and Associate Professor of Education CeCe Toole have been selected to serve as co-directors of faculty development.

The Faculty Development co-directors will be responsible for the coordination and promotion of faculty development opportunities for Meredith College faculty. In this role, they will provide leadership in planning and promoting Professional Development Communities; act as a resource for faculty submitting internal and external proposals; and assist in organizing and delivering faculty development opportunities.

The co-directors will collaborate with Provost Matthew Poslusny in developing and managing faculty development resources.

Poslusny said he selected Schrock and Toole after reviewing many excellent candidates.

“As I evaluated the final two candidates it became clear to me that their strengths so well complement each other that naming them as co-directors was the clear choice,” Poslusny said. “Julie has a background in educational psychology as well as scholarly activity related to effective college teaching. Cece has served as a member of the Faculty Development Task Force, which helped create opportunities for increased faculty development support.”

Julie Schrock joined the Meredith faculty in 2002. She teaches courses for pre-service and practicing teachers that address teaching and learning, teaching students who are gifted and talented, adolescent learners, and differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all learners. Schrock presents regularly at teaching and learning conferences for higher education faculty on effective teaching practices. She has served as a member of the executive board and conference chair of the International Society for Exploring Teaching and Learning (ISETL) Conference.

Cece Toole joined the Meredith faculty in August 2011 after seven years of undergraduate and graduate teaching at USC Upstate. Her contributions to the profession include workshops and presentations at several annual teacher education conferences focusing on teacher preparation in mathematics and in middle level education. She also served as vice chair, and then chair, of Meredith’s Faculty Development and Instructional Technology committee.
