Meredith College Announces Top Scholarship Recipients in the Class of 2024

Meredith College has selected four incoming members of the Class of 2024 to receive Meredith Legacy and Presidential scholarships, which are the College’s top academic awards.

Marissa Borst, of Hope Mills, N.C., and Amelia Irvin, of Jamestown, N.C., are recipients of the Meredith Legacy Scholarship.

Borst, who plans to major in psychology at Meredith,  is a senior at Village Christian Academy in Fayetteville, N.C. She has been a member of the National Honor Society and was vice president of Student Government Association. Borst founded and served as president of her school’s chapter of Mu Alpha Theta math club. Other school activities include serving as an officer in the Red Cross Club, president of the Future Business Leaders of America chapter, class representative in Key Club, yearbook editor, assistant captain of the varsity cheer squad, and chapel logistics team member. She has also volunteered at Cape Fear Valley Hospital.

Irvin is a senior at Ragsdale High School in Jamestown, N.C., plans to enroll in Meredith’s Dual Degree Engineering Program, with majors in mathematics and computer science. Her activities include FIRST Robotics competitions, serving as a peer mentor and computer programming/aviation session leader for the Greensboro chapter of American Association of University Women, student pilot training at Piedmont Flight Training, marching band commanding officer, She is also a Girl Scout Gold Award recipient and a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church Flute Choir.

The recipients of The Meredith Legacy Scholarship, a full, four-year scholarship, is selected based on merit, including superior standardized test scores, academic achievement, high school and community leadership ability, and strong communication skills. Established and funded by Meredith College alumnae, the Meredith Legacy Scholarship is the highest honor available to entering freshmen at Meredith. Additional benefits of the Meredith Legacy Scholarship include international study, leadership training, enrichment programs and mentoring.

Emily Angel, of Kinston, N.C., and Kate Erb, of Glenmoore, Penn., are the recipients of Meredith’s Presidential Scholarship.

Angel, a senior at Arendell Parrott Academy, plans to go to medical school in the future. In high school, she was a member of the National Junior Honor Society and National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, SERV Honor Society, Quiz Bowl, and Spanish Club. As a student-athlete, she was on the Varsity Competitive Shooting Team (Archery), Varsity Field Hockey, and Varsity Swim Team. She is also active in her church and has participated in service trips abroad.

Erb is a senior at Owen J. Roberts High School and she plans to major in international studies at Meredith. Her honors in high school include membership in Rho Kappa (National Social Studies Honor Roll), National English Honor Society, National Language Honor Society, National Honor Society, and participation in the International Baccalaureate Program. Erb has been captain of her ice hockey teams, including playing on a national division championship team. She is the co-founder of Halftime Gear, a charity that collects used sports gear to clean and repurpose for those who cannot afford new gear. She designed and built the organization’s website, managed its Twitter account and set up gear collection boxes.

Presidential Scholars, like Meredith Legacy Scholars, represent the top tier of honors students at Meredith College. The Presidential Scholarship provides full tuition. The selection of the Meredith College Presidential Scholarship recipient is based on merit, including superior academic achievement, intellectual promise and leadership ability.
