Career Planning to Offer AAUW Start Smart Salary Negotiation Workshop

The Office of Career Planning is excited to offer the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Start Smart salary negotiation workshop through a generous grant from the Coca Cola Foundation. The award winning Start Smart salary negotiation workshop helps participants to learn about: the gender pay gap, determining their personal value, setting target salary and benefits, and creating strategies to build their pitch and respond persuasively. This online course represents a strong addition to career and professional development resources offered by OCP which support developing competency and confidence in salary negotiation.

Meredith College continues to be at the forefront of developing strong women professionals. Students begin to understand and apply their strengths early on in their college experience. Through StrongPoints and the application of CliftonStrengths, students build confidence talking about the unique value that they bring to a team or organization and grow their financial literacy. This new resource provides an additional tool to challenge the gender pay gap which the AAUW notes, “greets a woman as soon as she gets out of college and grows wider throughout her lifetime.”

According to the AAUW, more than 100,000 women are expected to complete the program in 2020. Students and alumni have free access to the online workshop through January 2021 at aauw.us/Meredith.

The American Association of University Women works to close the gender pay gap through education, research and advocacy. Founded nearly 140 years ago, the nonpartisan, nonprofit organization today has more than 170,000 members and supporters across the United States, as well as 1,000 local branches and more than 800 college and university members.
