Basketball Season in Full Swing; Spring Sports Open Feb 7

With four consecutive wins as of January 14, the Avenging Angels basketball team ranks first in USA South North division standings early this season.

The team enjoyed a short break after fall finals and returned to action December 29 for the Emory and Henry Holiday Classic. A loss to Piedmont College in the conference opener followed January 2 before Meredith collected wins over N.C. Wesleyan, LaGrange, Huntingdon and Methodist. Sophomore Jessi Hayes leads the offensive efforts and recorded a career-high 27 points versus the Bishops.

Meredith hosts N.C. Wesleyan tonight, January 21, at 7:30 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. battle versus cross-town rival William Peace January 28.

The Cary YMCA Super Skippers are scheduled to perform during halftime of the February 7 contest versus the Averett Cougars. Mark this date on your calendar to enjoy a unique and impressive presentation. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.

The spring sports opened practice this week. Lacrosse and softball begin competition February 7 at Guilford and Shaw, respectively, and tennis travels to Mount Olive on February 10. This season, please be aware of foul balls flying into the parking lot adjacent to the softball field.

The lacrosse coaching staff hosted approximately 40 campers in the first-ever Preseason Tune-Up Camp the week of January 5. And Head Soccer Coach Paul Smith will host high school players February 7 in the third annual Elite Winter Soccer Camp. Stay tuned for the youth summer sports camp schedule.
