Avenging Angels Athletics Update March 2018

Athletics Update 3/28/18

Meredith College spring sports are in full swing, including a recent home game for lacrosse, which hosted Brevard on March 24, and a non-conference doubleheader against St. Andrews for softball, when the team celebrated nine players during Senior Day.

MC Lax sits atop the USA South Conference with a 5-0 record, well positioned to defend their 2017 regular season title. In Monday’s most recent USA South weekly selections, the Avenging Angels swept the women’s lacrosse honors.

The Meredith softball team was also tabbed in their preseason coaches’ poll to defend last spring’s East Division Regular Season Championship. Currently positioned in the upper tier of league standings, the Angels must finish strong with three USA South doubleheaders left on the schedule. A top-three finish affords Meredith hosting privileges for round one tournament action Saturday, April 7.

In a March tripleheader, the Meredith tennis team scored two wins over USA South opponents. With six conference matches left to play, the Angels need a top-four regular season finish in the East Division to advance to the Spring Festival.

Track & field, Meredith’s newest sport addition now in its third season, remains diligent in their efforts this season. Each athlete participating in the Coastal Carolina Invite in Myrtle Beach during spring break established a new personal or season best performance. The Angels competed in Mount Olive, North Carolina, this weekend.
