Avenging Angels Athletics Update: February 6, 2019

Under direction of new Head Coach LaQuanda Quick, the Meredith College basketball team appears to be peaking at just the right time. With just two regular season games remaining on the calendar, MCBB has won six of their last eight games after opening the season with nine consecutive losses.

The top-six teams in each division advance to the USA South Conference Tournament, which begins February 13. The Avenging Angels will move on to tournament play and will play hard to move up the standings during the last week of the season. Meredith hosts Averett University tonight (February 6) at 6 p.m. in the final home game this winter with senior recognitions just prior to a 6 p.m. tipoff in Weatherspoon Gym.

The Meredith track & field Angels closed out the indoor season Sunday at the Vince Brown Invitational at Christopher Newport University. With a slew of new personal and season records, the Avenging Angels are poised for a strong outdoor season. Now that outdoor track & field is a USA South sponsored sport, Meredith student-athletes will compete in the first conference championship this April at Berea College in Kentucky. Additionally, the Angels will be eligible to earn weekly conference honors, similar to athletes from the other Meredith sports teams.

The rest of the spring sports are already in progress with competitions opening February 12 on the Meredith tennis courts. Softball and lacrosse kickoff later that week.
