Assessment Matters: Spring 2020 International Student Survey

Results from the 2020 International Student Survey show that international students at Meredith express high satisfaction levels with their academic and social experiences. Of the 50 students with F-1 visas who were invited to participate in the survey, 20 responded to the online questionnaire. 67% of the respondents were undergraduates, while 14% were graduate students. In addition, 10% of the responses came from recent alumnae who are part of the post-graduation Optional Professional Training (OPT) program through Meredith.

52% of the students who responded to the survey have lived in the U.S. for two years or less, while 14% have spent between three and four years here. In addition, 33% reported having lived in the country for more than four years.

Meredith’s Office of International Programs (OIP) provides F-1 visa support, as well as sponsors a number of social and educational events to support its international student population. The UN Dinner, International Fashion Show, Meredith International Festival, and Thanksgiving Lunch at President Allen’s house were among the students’ favorite opportunities to mingle and learn.

The following are some highlights indicative of a positive international student experience at Meredith:

  • 95% of F-1 students felt prepared as a result of the pre-arrival information they received from OIP
  • 100% feel comfortable expressing their gender, sexual, and ethnic identities
  • 100% are confident of their ability to understand classroom lectures
  • 100% are confident that they can create a 4-year plan for completing their degree at Meredith
  • 94% feel confident about connecting with other students in their classes
  • 100% feel confident in their ability to engage in classroom discussions
  • 100% are satisfied with the advising and support services available to them at Meredith
  • 100% agree that they are satisfied with their overall experience at Meredith

The results from this survey are used by OIP to assess and plan the programs and services that they offer to international students.
