Alumnae Reunion Weekend Brings More than 600 Alumnae to Campus

Campus was abuzz throughout the weekend of May 15-17, as Meredith classmates reunited for Alumnae Reunion Weekend 2015. More than 600 alumnae returned home to Meredith to reconnect with the College and one another. Generations of graduates were represented ranging from the Class of 1943 to the Class of 2010, and alums traveled from states near and far, including California, Colorado, Florida, and Massachusetts.

Alumnae Reunion Weekend kicked off on Friday afternoon with the Golden Oaks Society Luncheon, where members of the Class of 1965 were formally inducted into the Golden Oaks Society in celebration of their fiftieth reunion. Campus Traditions Tours and an archival display took place during the day. That evening, reunion classes danced the night away to the music of the Band of Oz at a party in the Courtyard hosted by President Jo Allen, ’80.

The annual meeting of the Alumnae Association took place on Saturday morning. President Allen delivered a State of the College address, and special alumnae awards were presented.  A luncheon and class meetings followed. Throughout the day, alumnae had the opportunity to shop at the Meredith Market, which consisted of alumnae vendors selling a variety of products including jewelry, clothing, and artwork. Each individual class held its own activity on Saturday evening.

The weekend culminated on Sunday morning with an Alumnae Worship Service led by Louisa Monroe, ’10, and a brunch in the atrium of the Science and Math Building. Alumnae left campus with a renewed sense of connection to Meredith and to each other.

At the end of the weekend, Sue Cook, ’70, said she and her classmates “never felt stronger and prouder to be alums.”

“We may be older and wiser and dealing with all kinds of health issues, but for one glorious weekend, we were definitely young in heart and spirit,” Cook said.
