Alumnae Relations Holds Galentine Event for Students

On Friday, February 13, the Office of Alumnae Relations held a Galentine event for students. This year’s theme was “Love Letter to Yourself,” and students had the opportunity to write encouraging notes to themselves to take with them or have Alumnae Relations mail later.

The Board of Directors Student Relations committee brainstormed writing prompts for the students to use as guidance, including reflective and goal-setting prompts. Students could also include a prompt to tell them when to open the note. Students decorated their letters while they enjoyed doughnuts, hot chocolate, and an iced coffee bar.2026 Students at Galentine event

Ashley Allen, ʼ16, chair of student relations for the Alumnae Board, said, “It is a fun way to see what is happening on campus and see the new students. That is why we enjoy it so much and why we continue to have events like this. My biggest purpose is making sure students know that once you graduate and get that degree, you can still come back. This is a way for students to see how you can come back and help, versus just attending an alumnae event.”

“It is important for current students to see alumnae present and engaging with their alma mater as this creates a pipeline for engaged alumnae in the future,” said Hannah Kicklighter Roman, ‘19, assistant director of alumnae relations. “We aim to create lifelong relationships with the College to preserve the special community at Meredith. Alumnae love connecting with current students and sharing experiences.”

Events like these serve as an encouragement for students, fostering a sense of pride in their institution. And Meredith alumnae at the event enjoyed being there and interacting with current students.

“I enjoy getting to talk to students about what’s going on with them during Valentine’s week,” said Marva Watkins, ʼ86. “I love when they show up looking a bit timid and leave with big smiles, saying it was lots of fun and it made their week! We love to offer encouragement because we’ve been where they are and we’re all part of the sisterhood of Meredith Angels!”

2026 Galentine event with signRoman feels like friendships are one of the most meaningful parts of the college experience.

“Many Meredith alumnae rely on their friends from college throughout all of life’s transitions, from graduating, scoring their first big job, graduate programs, marriages, children, loss, etc. Investing in friendships now will serve you for life—personally and professionally! The Alumnae Association hopes the Galentine’s event gave students a little time to celebrate their friends.”
