The Office of Alumnae Relations hosted Discover Meredith on Saturday, October 17, in coordination with the Office of Admissions. Discover Meredith is a special visitation day during which alumnae have the opportunity to bring prospective students to campus.
Alumnae representing classes ranging from 1943 to 2015 took the opportunity to showcase their alma mater in the hopes of encouraging their daughters, nieces, friends, and students to apply.
The day started off with a welcome from President Jo Allen, ’80, and remarks from Director of Admissions Shery Boyles. Boyles described the admissions process and detailed what students in each stage of their high school career can do to make important connections with the College. A panel discussion followed composed of two alumnae and two current students who discussed what they love most about Meredith and offered advice on a variety of topics to the prospective students.
At the conclusion of the panel, White Iris Circle members provided campus traditions tours. This special version of a campus tour included discussion of all major traditions on campus. Alumnae were able to share their own stories along the way!
The day ended with lunch in Belk Dining Hall with remarks from Claire Sullivan Slaughter, ’72, President of the Alumnae Association, and Vice President for College Programs Jean Jackson, ’75.
Discover Meredith had a strong impact on both the prospective students and alumnae who attended.
Samantha Watson, ’14, a teacher at Cary High School, brought a former student to campus for the event.
“Discover Meredith was a great opportunity to share my alma mater with a former student who I think could thrive at Meredith next year,” Watson said. “She was able to get a behind the scenes tour, and I was able to share some of the experiences that made Meredith the perfect college choice for me.”
The Alumnae Office enjoyed providing an opportunity for alumnae to bring high school students to campus and looks forward to hosting the event again next fall.
