Until Next Time, Alice

Alice in Wonderland Objects

In the spring semester of 1924 Meredith College faculty presented a play based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland to entertain students on campus. Since 1924, the quadrennial performance of Alice, tailored for its audience of students, has become one of the most beloved Meredith traditions. Once in every College generation, students enjoy the hilarity of this literary fantasy as they struggle to identify the faculty and staff costumed as actors.

On Thursday, January 23, 2020, alumnae and friends were welcomed back to campus to view the dress rehearsal of the 96th Alice in Wonderland performance on Meredith’s campus. Attendees kicked off the Alice festivities by feeling transported to Wonderland at a special pre-show reception. Excitement for the performance quickly grew (as did the line outside of Jones Auditorium) as the start of the performance drew near. As with all great events, the 96th year of Alice came to an end after a final performance Saturday night. Alice will return in the spring of 2024 to celebrate her 100th year at Meredith.
