Alumna Jenny Hubbard’s Latest Novel Earns Printz Honor

Alumna Jenny Hubbard’s book, And We Stay, is one of four Printz Honor Books for 2015. The Michael L. Printz Award recognizes excellence in literature written for young adults.

The honor was one of the 2015 youth media awards announced by the American Library Association on February 2. And We Stay was published by Delacorte Press, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books.

Hubbard is a 1987 graduate of Meredith College, where she studied English and theatre.

In April 2014, Hubbard spoke at Meredith as part of an event celebrating young adult literature. During that visit to campus, Hubbard said she knew from an early age she wanted to write, announcing her intention to her kindergarten class.

“I always loved to read,” Hubbard said. “I came to writing through my reading.”

Hubbard also talked about how her theatre training influences her writing. “I’m interested in making dialogue as realistic as possible,” Hubbard said. “Theatre helps with that, and also with book presentations.”
