All Meredith Students in Europe Reported Safe

A message from Meredith's Office of International Programs:

As we celebrate international education this week, our hearts are with the French. Many of us have been privileged to study in Paris, to teach in Paris, to live in Paris, to vacation in Paris.  We all departed feeling a special bond with Parisians, who shared with us their magical city.  We join together in the assertion, “Je suis Parisienne.” “ Je suis Francaise.”  I am a Parisian.  I am French. Our hearts are especially with the students, faculty, and staff of the Paris American Academy, Meredith's 20+ year study abroad partner in Paris. Peter Carman, President of the Paris American Academy, is in Raleigh this weekend spending time with his many Meredith friends and former students.

I am grateful to be able to share that all Meredith study abroad students are safe. We do not have anyone studying abroad in France this semester. Our students elsewhere in Europe have confirmed their safety. Please be assured that our office will continue diligently monitoring this situation.

We hold close to our hearts those who have died and those who loved them.  Let us also use this moment to reaffirm our belief that it is possible for all of us to live in harmony, in spite of our differences, even if today we are not quite sure how.  If we allow ourselves to think otherwise, we are allowing terrorism to win, something we must not do.

Take care,
Director of International Programs Brooke Shurer, in partnership with Betty Webb, Liz Yaros, Cathy Rodgers, and Tammi Dittmar
