Registration recently opened for the 18th Annual Meredith College Golf Classic slated for Monday, April 11, at Brier Creek Country Club. We offer several ways for Meredith faculty and staff to be involved. We are now collecting prizes and gifts for the golfer goodie bags and silent auction. Individuals and businesses may also sponsor the golf tournament in a variety of ways. The basketball team wrapped up the 2015-16 season last week as the eighth seed in the USA South Conference Tournament. In spite of a valiant effort versus the top-seeded and tournament host Maryville Scots, the Avenging Angels ended the season with a round one loss.
The spring seasons are in full swing! Head Softball Coach Kim Scavone earned her 100th and 101st wins Sunday in day two of the Grand Slam Classic as Meredith moved to a 6-4 overall record early in the season. Lacrosse opened the 2016 campaign with three wins and will host the University of Mary Washington Wednesday afternoon before heading to Puerto Rico for spring break.
Tennis collected the first win of the season Saturday versus USA South foe Piedmont College. Sophomore Ran Zhang went 4-0 on the week at no. 2 singles and no. 1 doubles with Catherine Bryant.
The new Avenging Angel track & field squad travels to Berry College in Rome, Ga., this coming weekend for the college’s first-ever collegiate meet. The 21-member team will compete in sprints, middle distance, long distance, and pole vault.
Athletic Director Jackie Myers and Head Coach Leslie Payne will introduce the 21-member squad during a campus-wide celebration March 31 at 3 p.m. down at the track. Join the Avenging Angels for the celebration of the dedication and hard work committed by these student-athletes and coaches.
