Cornhuskin’ 2019 Spectator Information
Meredith College’s annual Cornhuskin’ tradition will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2019.
Goals of the event:
- Provide a safe and entertaining experience for Meredith students
- Offer opportunities for guests to view the Cornhuskin’ activities, with priority viewing given to student participants, current faculty & staff, and some recent alumnae
- Ensure the safety of all participants and guests
- Successfully continue the 70+ year legacy of Cornhuskin’ events

The following guidelines are intended to ensure that we can successfully meet the goals of this event.
The Cornhuskin’ Parade will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Main Campus Drive. Please be aware of the following guidelines for transportation and parking on campus:
- At 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019 the Main Campus Drive will be closed at Hillsborough Street to incoming and outgoing traffic. It will remain closed until after the Cornhuskin’ Parade participants have safely cleared the parade route. Entrance and exit to/from the Meredith Campus will be through the Faircloth gate only. PLEASE NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO PARKING ALLOWED ON SATURDAY, NOV. 2 ON EITHER SIDE OF MAIN CAMPUS DRIVE FROM THE TRAFFIC CIRCLE TO JOHNSON HALL.
- The Chapel Parking Lot will be closed at 3 p.m. until after the parade. If faculty, staff, or others park in the Chapel Lot on Saturday, and need to leave early, these drivers will need to exit the lot BEFORE 3 p.m. Drivers may remain parked in the lot until after the parade, if they choose to do so.
- The following parking lots will be open, but will be used as loading areas for the parade and may experience heavy traffic in the time leading up to the parade:
- Alumnae lot – Freshman and Sophomore classes
- East Oaks lots– clubs and organizations
- West Oaks lots –Junior class
- Southern half of Commuter Lot – Senior class
- The following guidelines should be observed for all spectators of the parade:
- No animals (outside of registered service animals) should be present for the parade.
- Adults are responsible to ensure the safety of all minors during the parade.
- All spectators must remain on the sidewalks and grassy areas to observe the parade. No pedestrians should access roadways at any time while the parade is in progress.
Cornhuskin Main Event
The Cornhuskin’ main event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in McIver Amphitheater. Please be aware of the following guidelines for Cornhuskin’ spectators:
Wristband Registration and Distribution
- In order to ensure that there is enough seating room in the amphitheater, a Meredith College-issued Cornhuskin’ wristband will be required for each individual to enter the McIver Amphitheater gates.
- Meredith College Students – for details, see the “Cornhuskin’ Wristband Distribution for Students and Students’ Guests” on the Student Leadership & Service MyMeredith page.
- Guests – All student guest wristbands must be requested through a Meredith College student. Details regarding requesting a wristband will be distributed to all students. Wristbands for confirmed Student GUESTS will be distributed at an upper level tent beginning at 5 p.m. on the day of the main event and will be available to confirmed guests until 9:00 p.m. Each guest must present a valid confirmation in order to receive a wristband for Reserved Guest Seating. More instructions will be provided to students at a later date.
- Faculty and Staff – must reserve a wristband through Student Leadership & Service. More information will be given through email.
- Big Sis Class (Class of 2018) – Invitations to the Class of 2018 will be sent through an email, and the Big Sis Class must reserve their wristband through that email. Wristbands can be picked up at 5 p.m. on the day of the event at the second upper level tent at the top of the amphitheater. Members of the Class of 2018 should enter the amphitheater through the top entrance. Alumnae class members will be directed to a reserved seating area behind the Class of 2020. To reserve your seat, please refer to your email from the Alumnae Office.
- Guests with wristbands will be allowed through the amphitheater gates beginning at 5:30 p.m. Volunteers will direct these guests to the designated reserved guest seating areas. Campus police/volunteers will pause entry through the gates at 6:30 p.m. in order to allow for class processionals and will then allow any remaining guests with wristbands in after processionals are complete.
- No individual will be permitted to remain sitting or standing in the aisles or walkways of the amphitheater – blocking of aisles is a fire code violation and a safety concern.
- For the sake of maximizing seating space, the following items are not permitted within the amphitheater gates: chairs with legs, coolers, or large bags.
- Blankets, seat cushions (with or without a back) and stadium seats (without legs) are permitted.
Alternative Viewing Areas
Alumnae Relations has invited all Alumnae to observe Cornhuskin’ from Jones Auditorium - please see the correspondence you received via the Alumnae Relations Office for additional details.
Guests are welcome to sit (in chairs, on blankets, etc.) on the hills on either side of the amphitheater and outside of the gated area – this space is first-come/first-served beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 2. These spaces offer views of the amphitheater stage and are good options for seating outside of the crowded amphitheater. These areas will have good access to concessions and portable restrooms.
Public climate-controlled seating and a live video feed of the Cornhuskin' performances will be available in Jones Auditorium starting at 5:30 p.m. This auditorium is a positive alternative to sitting in the Amphitheater.
