Cornhuskin’ 2017 Schedule

Cornhuskin’ is perhaps Meredith College’s largest and most well-attended tradition. For students, Cornhuskin’ includes an entire week of events, but here are some that the campus community may enjoy attending:

Can Art
This event takes place on Wednesday, November 1 at 4 p.m. outside in the courtyard of Meredith’s campus. Each class creates a design related to the theme that they have chosen for Cornhuskin’ week. While it can look like chaos from the ground, when you look from above you can see how the soda cans are slowly taking shape into a work of art! At the conclusion of Can Art, all cans are recycled and donated.

Parade
Another exciting aspect of Cornhuskin’ is the parade on the afternoon of Friday, November 3! The parade begins at 3:30 p.m., so stop by to see the excitement as the classes proudly display their themes and march through campus. This event is open to anyone who wishes to observe, but we ask that all spectators keep the roadways clear of foot traffic, leave all animals (outside of service animals) at home, and carefully watch all minors.

Picnic
Following the parade, but before the Cornhuskin’ main event starts, there will be a picnic for all Meredith community members starting at 4:45 p.m.

Cornhuskin’ Main Event
An evening of events where classes compete against each other in skits, corn shuckin’, songs, apple bobbin’ and more! This event is hosted in the Meredith Amphitheater on the evening of Friday, November 3 and begins at 6 p.m. All guests wishing to sit inside the amphitheater must have a wristband. Faculty and staff were able to request wristbands earlier this month. Seating is also available within Jones Chapel to watch a live stream of the event, and there will be lawn seats on a first-come, first-served basis near the amphitheater for live viewing (this seating can be “claimed” no earlier than 8 a.m. on November 3).
