Benefits of Living on Campus

Living on campus is an important part of the college experience. By living on campus, students will gain greater independence, strengthen their communication skills, and learn how to live within a community – all valuable knowledge with benefits that last well beyond graduation.

Here are a few additional benefits of living in one of Meredith’s historic residence halls.

Convenience: Students who live on campus are closer to their classes, avoid issues with traffic, and are near campus resources such as the learning center, dining hall, new fitness center, and athletic events.

Campus involvement: Being close to the action makes it easier to get involved – and research shows that it’s key to making friends and finding your place at college.

Inclusive cost: Room and board fees cover room rent, utilities, laundry machine use, a meal plan, and access to the campus health center.

Connect with classmates (outside of class): Learn about different personalities and cultural backgrounds.  Employers have come to expect global and intercultural fluency – and getting together for studying or class projects is easier.

Safety and security: Campus security and a residence director are on duty at all times. These resources can be accessed for anything from a general question to bathroom lockout or crisis.

Quiet hours: From 10 p.m. – 10 a.m. weekdays, quiet hours provide a more conducive environment for studying and sleeping.

Consistency: Many off-campus apartment complexes change ownership or management, which can cause headaches for residents. On campus, Meredith College is the landlord.

To support our students as they transition from living at home to living on campus, every first-year residence hall has a full-time residence director and resident assistants on each floor. These staff members are trained to help residents connect with others in their building and across campus.
