Asia Taylor

Interior design major Asia Taylor, ’17, has made connections at Meredith that will help her throughout her career.

“My interior design professors have helped me connect with other design professionals in the area, providing me with contacts and the opportunity for internships and jobs,” Asia said.

One result was an internship at the headquarters of Alfred Williams & Company.

“I learned more than I ever could have imagined. I was able to work with interior designers, many of who are Meredith alums,” Asia said. “I went on field visits, sat in on client meetings, and gained real experience in the design industry.”

While at Meredith she’s built strong relationships with faculty and staff, who she came to see as role models.

“I enjoy having my faculty recognize me in the hallway and start conversations with me about my life outside of school,” Asia said. “Having those personal relationships has made it easier for me to speak up in class, or to ask for help and advice.”

Her campus involvement includes serving as co-president of Meredith’s chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers, the vice president of Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society, and a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. She enjoyed being involved in traditions like Cornhuskin’ and helping with Scholars’ Weekend.

“These organizations and activities have enriched my educational experience by allowing me to connect with people who share my interests,” Asia said. “The feeling of sisterhood on Meredith’s campus is real.”

She also served as a student worker in Meredith’s Human Environmental Sciences Department, a position through which she built event planning and computer skills.

After graduation, she plans to work for a commercial design firm in Raleigh.

“Meredith has prepared me for this step by giving me professors who have increased my knowledge in interior design and have given me the chance to network with professionals in my industry,” Asia said.
