Profile

Angela Stephenson has taught piano in the Community School of Music at Meredith since 1992.  A Raleigh native, she began her piano studies with Marilyn Brown and participated in many recitals, festivals, and competitions.  During high school, she served 3 years as an accompanist for her high school ensembles.

Angela received both her bachelor and master degrees in piano from Meredith College and was a student of James Clyburn.  Upon being accepted to Meredith, she was the recipient of a music scholarship and during her college years she was awarded the Presser Scholarship and also a graduate school scholarship.  During this time, she was also inducted into Sigma Alpha Iota and Pi Kappa Lambda.

Angela has taught piano both privately and also in a Christian school and has held several church music positions throughout the years. In 2001, she became the pianist and organist for Holland’s United Methodist Church and remained in that position until 2018.  Since 2018, she has held the role of Choir Director at Holland’s UMC.

Angela is a member of the Raleigh Piano Teachers Association and the North Carolina Music Teachers Association.  In the past, many of her students participated in the Young Artist Auditions, an event held yearly by RPTA.

At Meredith, Angela helped with both the summer piano camp and beginner’s piano camp for many years.  She enjoys teaching all ages and levels, but especially enjoys working with the beginning student.
