The Importance of Global Health – Hawa Tuli

Having lived in five different countries and graduating with a degree in biology, Hawa Tuli’s plan to pursue a master of science in global health might seem obvious.

In fact, discerning this interest and developing a plan for what’s next involved several faculty and staff, all of whom helped her explore different career paths before choosing global health.

“I met with a career counselor in Academic & Career Planning. We drew a diagram together and talked about my interests – she helped me realize I was interested in public and global health. I also took a science-focused career course,” said Hawa.

In retrospect, it’s clear that the broad range of experiences she had at Meredith all contributed to her choosing this next step.

Hawa was active in the Meredith International Association and the Association for Pre-Health Profession Students, conducted undergraduate research, was a biology tutor for the learning center, participated in the honors program, volunteered for Read and Feed, job-shadowed at a free medical clinic, and served as president of the biology honor society.

“My Meredith experience was phenomenal. I was always strong and confident, but now I’m even more so – I’m more comfortable in my own skin.”
