Andie Stuber, ’13, wouldn’t trade her Meredith experience for anything now. But she wasn't sure about coming here initially.
“My grandmother taught at Meredith for 30 years and I took piano lessons here when I was younger,” said Andie. “Then when I started looking at schools, it became clear that it was a great fit for me. I wanted a small school environment, and it has the best interior design program in the state.”
A self-described perfectionist, Andie says she’s not content unless she’s doing the absolute best she can at any given task. She’s also compassionate and connects with people easily.
Both attributes are critical to her role as a project designer at a Raleigh interior design firm – a position she landed before she finished her degree in December 2013, having interned there since she was a sophomore.
At the recommendation of her professors, she also earned the LEED Green Associate credential at end of her sophomore year after she expressed an interest in environmental sustainability.
Andie places a high premium on taking on new challenges. She climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro on a trip with her family, calling it one of the best experiences she’s ever had. She also studied abroad for a semester in Sansepolcro, Italy.
“I learned so much about myself studying abroad. I became stronger because I had to be self-reliant and developed greater flexibility. I came back to Meredith a completely different person,” said Andie.
Andie was guided by a range of people at Meredith, including her interior design professors, her lacrossecoach, and several mentors who were professionals in the design field. She loved the way her faculty approached teaching, saying it was great preparation for working in the real world.
“They’d coach you to come to a better solution, help you figure out why something didn’t work and why something else might work better.”
As a professional designer, Andie relishes the creative freedom she is given. “I love interior design because every day is so different,” said Andie.
