Profile

Sandra Pesoli joined the faculty of the World Languages and Cultures department at Meredith College in the Fall of 2014. She teaches lower and intermediate level Italian language courses as well as Independent Study. In addition, she has taught Italian Cuisine and Culture (WLC 285), a new course she created to expand the Italian Studies Minor offerings.

Pesoli has a background in Foreign Language Education and an interest in sociolinguistics and film studies, which started when she was at the University of Rome, in Italy. Being from Italy she feels like the “ambassador” for the country at Meredith and she takes this role very seriously. Every day in the classroom, she is not simply teaching a foreign language, but her own language and her own culture.

Pesoli enjoys collaborating with faculty from other departments because she believes languages are particularly suited to make connections with other disciplines such as art, music and history.  During the Fall of 2020 she co-taught an interdisciplinary course with Art Professor Dr. Shannon Johnstone titled Defining Home; Transition and Immigration in Contemporary Film and Photography.

Pesoli attends conferences on a regular basis because she is convinced that is a good way to learn new methods and gather new ideas from colleagues working in other institutions, and she also tries to present her own research on cultural and sociolinguistic topics as a way to advertise Meredith in the academic world.

When Pesoli is not working, she is either in her kitchen trying a new recipe or at the pool swimming a mile.
