Richard Barnes is a visiting assistant professor of accounting in the college’s School of Business. Richard  has taught for over 20 years at various universities throughout the United States including the University  of South Carolina, North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, and  Western Governors University. At previous institutions Richard has served in various institutional roles  including department chair, assurance of learning director, program chair, senior manager for academic  engagement, and associate dean for assessment. Richard’s teaching interests are in taxation,  managerial/cost accounting, and accounting ethics. Richard’s research currently focuses on tax issues in  retirement & estate planning, regulation of the accounting profession, competency-based education,  and employee benefit plans.
