Work Experience

Dr. Pierce worked as a Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) for over 20 years in early intervention, public schools, and residential facilities. She also served as NC’s Early Intervention Program’s Services Director, and as consultant to the state’s Pre-K and Exceptional Children’s services. Dr. Pierce also served as a Legislative Analyst for the NC General Assembly, providing research and consultation on educational, health and early childhood-related bills and issues.  For 12 years, she provided SLP clinical services, taught early childhood and SLP courses, conducted early language and literacy research, and helped to create the Center for Literacy and Disability Studies at UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. Pierce has also taught seated and on-line courses in the Early Childhood Department at Wake Technical Community College. She is very happy to be returning to teach in the Child Development Program at Meredith College.
