Dr. Ellis began her sewing career at age 5. By eighth grade she was an entrepreneur. In subsequent years, she created costumes for the Houston Roller Derby team, an ice skater and an opera singer. After receiving her Ph.D. from Florida State University in 1982, Ellis came to Meredith and is the program coordinator for fashion merchandising and design. Prior to joining the Meredith faculty, she had a varied career in the fashion industry, in roles including store manager, buyer, sales manager, distribution supervisor, interior designer, and apparel designer.
She is also a visiting professor for Paris American Academy in Paris, France, each summer. Ellis is a member of the International Textiles and Apparel Association and on the Advisory Committee of the Paris American Academy. Dr. Ellis has won three awards during her tenure at Meredith College for excellence in artistic expression and teaching and for outstanding service to the college.
