Christie Bishop Barbee is a 1983 graduate of Meredith College where she majored in religion. Barbee worked for more than 20 years with the transportation construction industry as Executive Director of the Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association, representing North Carolina’s road builders. In addition to her responsibilities for the management of the Association, she was responsible for oversight and implementation of the transportation construction industry’s legislative agenda, covering regulatory and appropriations issues. Over her career in construction, Barbee focused on building partnerships with other businesses and organizations interested in transportation. She was a founding member and President of NC Go!, a statewide coalition of organizations dedicated to improving North Carolina’s transportation system. Barbee worked with a number of business and industry coalitions to promote a positive environment for economic development in North Carolina, serving for 16 years on the Board of the NC Free Enterprise Foundation. She is past president of the North Carolina Professional Lobbyists Association.

Before working with CAPA, Barbee was a member of the senior staff of Governor James B. Hunt, serving as his Director of Citizen Affairs. Her background includes political consulting as a strategist and fundraiser for many candidates, including Governor James B. Hunt, Governor Mike Easley, and Congressman David Price. She currently works as an independent consultant in the areas of public affairs and leadership development.
