This course examines the behavioral aspects of working effectively in the project or program domain. We examine current philosophies of work around enhanced leadership, communication, conflict management, risk management, and negotiation skills, and the ability to organize, manage, and to produce efficient delivery from teams. Use of media, including social media, print news and television will be discussed.  Good leadership is an important element when applied to project, risk, and program management, and this course identifies various styles of communication and conflict resolution that leaders can use.

Students completing this course will be able to: 

• Explain major theories about effective leadership, communication styles, conflict management and negotiations in project or program implementation.
• Explain how to use and respond to media focus (both positive and negative), including social media, print news and television in programs and projects in the process of change.
• Describe communication networks in agencies where program or projects are being implemented and determine how to most effectively encourage “buy in” from different stakeholders.
• Through the use of case studies, describe how to deal with dysfunctional teams and dealing with ethical issues.
