This camp is designed to give high school students a sample of basic college music theory. It will help any student who is considering music as a major in college. Or it will help anyone who is excited about expanding his/her basic knowledge of music. PRIOR music reading ability IS necessary. In the week-long session students will deal with traditional music theory of functional harmony; the ideas of keys and key signatures, along with chord structures, part-writing and basic analysis. Additionally, time will be spent covering a variety of approaches to composition by composers of the 20th and 21st centuries including whole-tone, pentatonic, quartal, quintal, octatonic, and 12-tone theory.
