Lisa Liske, Cello Faculty Recital

February 16 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Flyer for Lisa Liske's concert.

Meredith faculty member Lisa Liske, with a Baroque back-up band – i.e. continuo group! – of Barbara Krumdieck (continuo cello), Salomé (SaSa) Sandoval (plucked instruments and voice), and Jennifer Streeter (harpsichord) have a February offering of rarely-heard early repertoire in their program Out of Italy: Baroque Music of the Cello Diaspora. They will perform at Meredith College on Monday, February 16 at 7 p.m. The program is free and open to the public, with donations encouraged.

In attending this performance, you will become acquainted with music written in the earliest days of the cello, when performers and composers were beginning to imagine what this still-new instrument might be capable of in addition to wonderful bass lines. Starting with three works composed in Italy and predating the Bach Suites, Out of Italy then proceeds on a musical journey exploring earliest works for cello written in Spain and Scotland, then following the arc of cello evolution toward the end of the Baroque era with sonatas written in London and Paris. You will enjoy this fresh take on old cello repertoire!
