Journalist and Author Denise Kiernan will present “The Girls of Atomic City: The Untold Story of the Women Who Helped Win World War II,” at Meredith College on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. Her lecture will be held at 7 p.m. in Jones Auditorium.
Kiernan’s book, The Girls of Atomic City, tells the unbelievable true story of young women during World War II who worked in a secret city dedicated to making fuel for the first atomic bomb—only they didn’t know that.
Kiernan has been working as a writer for more than 20 years. The Girls of Atomic City, is a New York Times, Los Angeles Times and NPR Bestseller, and was named as one of Amazon’s “Top 100 Best Books of 2013.” It was also awarded the 2014 American Political Science Association Woodrow Wilson Foundation Award for the best book published in the United States on government, politics, or international affairs. Her newest book is The Last Castle, which is about Asheville’s Biltmore Estate.
