Meredith College will hold a chapel service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 10 a.m. in Jones Chapel.
Featured speaker for the event will be Dr. Margaret A. Brunson. Spoken word will be presented by Dasan Ahanu and the Duke Divinity Black Seminarians Praise Team will perform.
Brunson is an inspirational speaker, writer, and author. She is CEO of Illumined Leadership Solutions, where she provides Illumined™ coaching, consulting, and seminars to individuals, groups, and organizations and helps people find purpose and live TheLoveLife™. In 2012, she published New Growth: How My Hair Saved My Life. She also serves as director of hospital relations for Alliance Behavioral Healthcare.
Ahanu is an artist, educator, and organizer. As a resident artist with the St. Joseph’s Historic Foundation/Hayti Heritage Center in Durham, N.C., he has developed poetry and spoken word programming for youth and adults and worked to grow the Triangle’s arts community. Ahanu served as an artist-in-residence and assistant professor of English at Saint Augustine’s University from 2006-15.
This event, which is sponsored by Meredith’s Office of the Chaplain and the Black Student Union, is free and open to the public. For Meredith students, this event counts as an Academic/Cultural Event for General Education.
